Art Meets Conservation: Grand Bahama's New Underwater Sculpture Garden

Blue Action Lab is pleased to announce the completion and official unveiling of the Grand Bahama Underwater Sculpture Garden collection ahead of its upcoming installation within Peterson Cay National Park. The project is being developed in partnership with the Bahamas National Trust, Waterkeepers Bahamas, and the Grand Bahama Port Authority, with funding support from the GEF SGP United Nations Development Program.

The underwater garden features sculptures by Bahamian artists Andret John and Grand Bahama resident Jacki Boss. In addition to their artistic and cultural significance, the sculptures will serve as artificial reef structures designed to encourage coral growth, attract marine biodiversity, and support long-term ecosystem restoration.

The initiative will also engage local divers, students, and community volunteers in reef monitoring and marine data collection efforts, promoting citizen science and environmental stewardship. Once installed, the Grand Bahama Underwater Sculpture Garden is expected to become a unique eco-tourism attraction, offering immersive experiences for divers, snorkelers, and environmentally conscious travelers.
